Leaning on the Line
One of the most important basics to get down if you want to
improve your riding is the skill of "leaning on the line."
without the ability to lean on the line (maintain line tension
and direction), your riding is going to be inconsistent at
best. Overall, i would consider it the most important concept
to master if you want to improve your riding.
If you are just beginning riding you would want to start just
outside the left wake (regular foot), and simply lean against
the line, trying to cut out to the side of the boat with a
smooth cut and a fairly even speed. you are naturally going
to pick up some speed, but you don't want to try and "rail"
out to the side of the boat as fast as you can. the point
is to maintain constant line tension and direction. You would
obviously do the same on the other side of the wake to start
toeside.
For those of you just starting to learn the wake to wake jump.
You are going to do the same thing except from the side of
the boat. pull up fairly wide to the right of the boat(regular).
Rather than trying to hook a turn and rail in, simply let
yourself start drifting in, and just bump up the intensity
a little on the way. You should have your butt a little low,
your arms and chest should remain still the entire time, and
focus on keeping your abs tight. and last but not least, USE
YOUR EYES! Always look where you are going to help maintain
your direction and awareness. At first, do not even try to
"jump" the wake, rather absorb it a bit with you
knees, and just try to keep an even speed ALL THE WAY ACROSS.
Once you can do that, incorporating a little push with your
legs will be simple. it is very important to always maintain
tension on the line edging in, in the air, and even after
you land. Realistically, you should be able to land on the
transition on a little bit of a heelside edge, rather than
on a flat board, or worst case, your toeside edge.
For those of you already doing jumps, spins, or inverts, you
should think about the same thing incorporated in to your
tricks. The is the way to get tricks consistent and to take
them out into the flats. without the line you are nothing.
let it do all the work.

Ever had problems with the driver keeping
the speed just right for your ride. You want 'em to speed up a bit
and you're goin' 30, you want it down a tad and the boat dies. Believe
me, I've had butter RUINED because I couldn't get a decent pull. Now
ANYBODY can drive your boat. The beauty of the Wakeboard Pro is its
simplicity. Just dial in the desired speed and drive normally. Once
the boat reaches the set speed PerfectPass will provide an audible
beep to confirm it has taken control. Speed changes can be made on
the fly in 1/4 mph increments with the simple press of a button.

Yes,
you can still train for the wake while you're at home just lookin' at
the snow on the ground. Of course, you can head out to Breckenridge for
the weekend and go snowboarding, but what has really helped me this winter
has been the Indo Board.
The Indo Board is a balance trainer and balance, as you know is the KEY
to all board sports. Balance is the key to style. When was the last time
you saw a rider who was off balance look good? Riders like Darin Shapiro,
Daniel Harf, & Parks Bonifay use the Indo as part of their training
regime. The Indo Board is not just something to master standing on. You
can do pop shuvits, ollies, hang ten, ride switch, one-footed, 360's,
etc. Call Bahnsen's at 402-339-4774 and ask for Mike, Chris,
or Ryan for more details on the Indo Board.

Try
the "Beard Buster". No need to spend $7 on that "eco-safe",
"bio-degradable" schmack you see advertised (although they do
work). Spend $2 and get a 3 pack of Barbasol. I prefer to put my money
in the gas tank. Now, this might not be as "environmentally friendly"
as some of the other binding "goo" solutions, but it works.
Barbasol comes in about 7 different flavors to fit your mood of the day.
To go bigger, I prefer the Menthol :) Oh yea... don't be "that
guy" and buy the GEL, just get the cheap "does anyone really
shave with this stuff" regular Barbasol!

If
you're looking for bigger air from your bowrider get your rope off the back
of the boat. There are many after market towers and pylons available at
reasonable costs. The most reasonable after market pylon I have found is
the BIG AIR PYLON.
It's price is $285 and I have personally used this pylon on an 18' Crownline.
It was very reliable... setup was easy and was very durable. Check out Big
Air Pylon's web site for more info. |
